thanks so much stu, i know exactly what you mean about 103 in texas ;-) it was 91 in austin yesterday!

i'm born & raised in texas, and moved to vermont this past summer with my wife, it's her home state, very different perspective ;-)

it's here, where spring isn't so blatantly beneath the thin texas winter, that i realized how barometer-ish the birds and squirrels and other animals are to springs impending-ness

in texas, the only time it's not spring is when it's summer ;-) that's not really true, but we like to say that ;-)

glad you checked out the poem, thanks again!

Now- I've been to Texas twice- both times it was 103. To put this into perspective- the UK NEVER gets up to these temperatures- not any more. Spring has just about started to break- it was 60 degrees the other day- the warmest in a long time. Somehow- I managed to relate to the Winter/Summer divide you paint in your poem. There's just something about the stirring animals, the watching birds- you captured the transition of the seasons so well, and so descriptively- very much enjoyed this.

glad you stopped by & liked this, i really appreciate it ;-)

i've rarely included any spanish, but this one felt right to me, even though i "had my doubts" ;-) so very glad you liked that part

that last stanza hit me unexpectedly, it was late last night, and i'd been "crafting" the poem, esp the winter/hair line (which i also "finally" liked ;-) ) and i wanted to go to bed so bad but needed to finish the poem and the feeling of the distance, the real distance, not the web or phone or email distance, between my family in texas and me here in vermont, well, it wrapped up the poem ;-)

thanks again ;-)

I liked these connected micropoems. For some reason, this one stuck out to me: "winter is a line / stretched from boston to san diego / spring is an intensity / pulling hair / from san francisco to charlotte," maybe the "pulling hair" and winter being a line stretched out. The mix of Spanish and slang was cool and the last stanza really wrapped it up nicely.

hi gay, quite a story!

yea, i'm born and raised texan myself

i've had a few snow-related journey-challenges, but my most severe and most dangerous were several in blinding rains and hail and wind from houston to galveston (on i45), and from lake jackson to galveston (on the coastal hwy)

the first i ended up in a single file with 3 or 4 other cars in the middle lane of the freeway in a blinding rain, lost half the mufflers support but dragged it over the causeway over the waters til i got home, too afraid to stop (couldn't see anyway)

the second was at night, water from the gulf washing under the car and pulling me out but got over the san luis pass and finally back to the east end, whew!

now my wife, who grew up here in vermont, has horror stories of near-disaster that give me the creeps ;-)

but anyways, glad to hear you're back in texas safe and sound

take care, best wishes ;-)

I'll give you my first thought upon ending (from a Texas girl) - yeah, been there and done that! However, that's a pretty crappy remark for a remarkable set of images. Both of us wrote of journeys today. This was the picture of transitions east to west, north to south. Leave Dallas for Colorado - sun shining, husband mowing grass, trying to get to son to take College Boards. Run into snow in Clarendon, ice in Amarillo, road closes behind in Dumas. Stop at truck stop. Everyone says go north not over Raton pass. Turns out stupid,
storm stays on path east. Drive in blinding ice & snow, trucks pull to side, no food, no coat and trudge on to Springfield, willing to sleep in lobby of motel, but they have a room, call home, say to youngest son, tell your dad I'm alive. Answer why wouldn't you be? Yeah, I agree those miles are longer and broader than we thought.
Excellent exploration of imagist themes throughout. Just thought I'd share my personal story for what it's worth. Thanks.

thanks david, i'm glad those lines worked for ya'll, i find that happening to me on others' work lots of times ;-)

that feeling of diversity you felt at the beginning is exactly how i felt starting the poem; i let random images come to mind, then as the work developed, kinda figured out what the mesh of images meant to me

glad you stopped by ;-)
